About BikePark Wales

 

BikePark Wales is the UK’s number one mountain bike facility located at Merthyr Tydfil on the edge of the Brecon Beacons national park just 25 minutes north of central Cardiff. The Park is now an internationally recognised destination and a mecca for mountain bikers, descending on Myndd Gethin, a 491-metre summit.

 

BikePark Wales is a young, successful business which is growing fast. The current offering includes over 40 world class mountain bike trails, a vehicular uplift service, café, bike shop, bike hire, coaching and events but an ambitious development plan is now underway to both improve the existing services and add new products and facilities to the existing site.

 

The Role

 

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an energetic, motivated, responsible and highly organised individual to join the BikePark Wales team.

 

The successful candidate must hold a CPC in International Passenger Transport (Transport Managers CPC - PSV) and have up to date knowledge of regulations, as they will be responsible for ensuring the legal compliance of the transport operation at all times.

 

The transport manager will also ensure the fleet is maintained and serviced in accordance with DVSA and company policies, managing maintenance standards and costs is an important part of this role.

 

The ideal candidate will come with fresh ideas on how to improve the transport operation, ensuring the service is effectively run and be a keen advocate of continuous improvement, as well as being a concise and dedicated leader.

 

The Transport Manager shall work alongside the CAO & Uplift Operations Manager to develop the Transport team. Ensuring they are motivated and focused on their individual contribution to the success of BikePark Wales, recognising achievement and rewarding performance along the way.

 

Naturally, health and safety will play a key part of the transport managers role, they will be responsible for managing compliance including process and procedures, promoting health and safety and leading team training sessions as well as creating risk assessments and standard operating procedures.

 

The successful candidate’s objective is to achieve world class safety, compliance and service standards through positive and proactive engagement with drivers and our visitors

 

Duties and responsibilities

 

Responsible for managing and delivering all aspects of the standard international PSV ‘O’ licence.

Responsible for vehicle and trailer maintenance and repairs, liaising with our commercial garages and assigned drivers to organise repair of all defects identified by the driver defect checks in a timely manner. Being responsible for maintaining the vehicle maintenance files for all vehicles.

Responsible for organising all vehicle inspections as per DVSA regulations, including MOT’s, scheduled checks and road tax

Deliver resource plans by managing the safe and cost-effective utilisation of equipment, working to decrease vehicle maintenance costs – This includes working on projects to upgrade the existing fleet of buses & trailers for efficiencies in cost and environment impact

Ensure all driver compliance is met, including required licence checks, and driver CPCs

Strong theoretical and practical understanding of vehicle maintenance to ensure the productivity of the fleets inhouse repairs and 3rd party contractors

Working with the SMT to improve the customer experience operationally

Maintain drivers are compliant to company policies and procedures

Continually review transport related risk assessments each year and amend as required

Lead on health and safety for the transport department

Review of departments KPI’s- Safety, Vehicle efficiency and profitability

Assisting in driving duties, should the rota dictate

Qualifications

 

Full, Clean British Driving Licence qualified to D1 (no 101 or 78 restriction), CPC, driver card

A-levels or equivalent advantageous

Transport Manager PCV CPC

Key Skills

 

Experience in Transport Management and maintaining an Operator’s licence role is essential

Transport Manager`s PSV CPC qualification

The ideal candidate will have a passion for and previous experience great understanding of quality visitor experience

A good understanding of vehicle mechanics and a practical approach is highly valuable

Vital communication skills in the development of customer relationships, managing questions and complaints calmly and decisively.

Exceptional personal standards and understanding of customer service

Minimum of 2 years’ experience in leadership is essential for this role, knowledge of transport-related HR processes

The ability to motivate and engage team members; to identify individual’s skill sets and utilise them, for both personal and business development

Outstanding organisation and planning skills, with a good eye for detail. Identifying a potential problem and acting quickly to resolve

Excellent people skills with the ability to build strong relationships, internally and externally across all team levels

A hard working and adaptable manner, with a solid common-sense approach

The ability to work efficiently and decisively in an often high paced working environment

Working knowledge in Microsoft office suite

Valid D1/D driving licence and PSV CPC is desirable

Ability to speak Welsh is desirable
