Shimano announces new 11spd quick-link and wide-ratio cassette

Shimano are expanding their 11 speed offering with a new wider ratio cassette (11 – 46t), “narrow wide” style chainrings and a quick-link to fit 11 speed chains.

The new CS-M8000 (XT) 11 – 46t cassette now offers a whopping 418% gear range and will still fit onto a standard Shimano style freehub. Predicted weight for the cassette is 540g.

In addition to the wide-ratio cassette, Shimano is releasing a redesigned 1 x 11 specific chainring featuring Dynamic Chain Engagement technology. This is a revised tooth profile from Shimano to ensure chain retention.

The CRM81 (XT) chainring features steel-plated teeth to reduce wear, while the CRM91 (XTR) version has strengthened aluminium teeth and is expected to weigh in slightly lighter.

Shimano have also announced the introduction of a quick-link in their 11 speed chains to ease chain installation and repair. This new SM-CN90011 link will be compatible with all Shimano 11 speed chains.
