BDS Finals at BikePark Wales

Posted on 05 Sep 2014

BikePark Wales are delighted to announce that the weekend of 13th/14th September will see the British Downhill Series final come to Merthyr Tydfil.

It has been an exciting season of racing and the title is still very much up for grabs in both the mens and womens Elite categories.  In the womens race local girl Manon Carpenter is currently leading the series with just an 82 point lead over Tahnee Seagrave whilst in the mens category Gee Atherton and Josh Bryceland are tied at 228 points each

The race will be held on a special track featuring the best parts of ”Enter the Dragon”, “Dai Hard” and “Zut Alors” and will feature a variety of terrain from rough rock gardens to big 30ft tabletop jumps and step down gap jumps.  The track will be sure to test even the best riders.

Saturday 13th September will see official practise taking place on the track whilst race day will be on Sunday from 11Am.  BikePark Wales regret that there will be no spectator parking at the bike park on Saturday or Sunday, parking will be strictly for racers only.  A park and ride car park with a shuttle bus to transport spectators to the race site will be available for £3 per person (return)  and will run from 8:30AM to 6PM on Sunday only. The park and ride car park is situated in the Merthyr Council offices at Triangle Business Park,  Pentrebach, Merthyr Tydfil, CF48 4TQ.  The Bus will drop riders at the bottom of the entrance road to BikePark Wales so expect a walk up the hill.

BikePark Wales will be open to the public for riding on Saturday and Sunday but please note that only the Beast of Burden climb, Sixtapod to Willy Waver and Wibbly Wobbly to Rim Dinger will be open as other trails use the underpass which the race track runs through.

Riders wishing to use the park on Saturday and Sunday please note that there will be no parking on-site, you will need to park at the Triangle Business Park and ride from there.  Please also use the Beast of Burdon climb to access the top of the Hill and not the fire road as this will be very busy with uplift vehicles.

The event promises to showcase some spectacular riding from some of the Worlds best downhill mountain bike racers so why not come along and cheer them on!
