5 reasons why coaching works

Posted on 17 Nov 2014

1. Pattern interruption - Within a coaching session we look to interrupt the unconscious patterns of behaviour. Missing a skill, can be like having a jumper with a hole in it, you are missing a piece but you can still wear it and keep riding, to remove the hole you need to unpick the jumper and re stitch it. By interrupting existing patterns, unpicking the jumper, we can correcting the missing skill and create a stronger rider.

2. Clarity- Understanding your own performance and identifying what you need to work on will help you to develop yourself even outside of the course environment. During the sessions we use verbal and visual feedback using video analysis whilst on the trails.

3. Chunk down techniques -  Breaking down techniques into component parts allows you to develop more rapidly and more lastingly. With targeted feedback and focused development, there is no limit to onwards progression.

4. Understanding Optimal vs Maximal - Riding at your maximal is often when you realise where your skills are lacking, however, being technically more correct and riding at your optimal will allow you to push your boundaries in terms maximal level of performance. Skills coaching will help your understanding the skills and ensure that through focusing on the techniques you have been taught, you can start riding faster at your optimal. There is a massive difference between getting by and getting better.

5. Fault Diagnosis - Showing someone a technique does not guarantee you can perform it yourself. By using our comprehensive system, our coaches can identify faults and work towards eliminating them. As there is generally more than one fault we work first on the overriding issue, address it and then repeat once resolved. This may need several sessions to correct multiple faults.
